Lyft dash cam

As the popularity of ridesharing services like Uber and Lyft continues to rise, more and more people are taking to the streets to earn some income by driving. While these services represent a good way to earn money in your spare time, it’s very important that Lyft and Uber drivers take the necessary steps in order to protect themselves. That means purchasing ridesharing insurance, driving safely, and getting a dash camera for Lyft driving activities.

Why Should Drivers use a Lyft Dash Cam?

Dash cameras can help protect you in the case of an accident, or in the case of a rider dispute. They can be helpful for any driver to prove fault in an accident (for insurance purposes), but they are especially important for rideshare drivers. Having video evidence can help protect you in legal disputes such as traffic tickets, insurance disputes involving accidents, and disputes between your riders and Lyft.

We believe that the best Lyft dash cam is one that records both in front of and inside your vehicle. That way, you can have video evidence if you get into an accident, or if your rider does something illegal in your vehicle, or if they accuse you of doing something and file a complaint with Lyft. It’s also useful to have audio recording enabled on your dash cam.

What is the Best Dash Cam for Lyft Drivers?

If you’re a Lyft driver and want to take the proper steps to protect yourself, your focus should be on finding a Lyft dash cam that checks all these boxes:

  • Two-way recording (front exterior and rear interior of vehicle)
  • Audio recording
  • GPS and speed data recording
  • Night vision
  • Loop recording (overrides old video to make room for new footage)
  • Inconspicuous design

Taking into account all the above factors, we’ve put together a list of the best dash cams for Lyft. Enjoy!

1. VanTrue N2 Pro

VanTrue N2 Pro

  • Front and rear-facing cameras
  • Records at 1080p in wide angle (better quality video can be accomplished using 4k dash cam)
  • Infrared night vision
  • Seamless loop recording
  • Automatically saves footage from accidents permanently, based on motion detection
  • Optional GPS system available (not included)
  • Audio recording
  • Excellent reviews on Amazon

The VanTrue N2 Pro is an excellent Lyft dash cam, offering most of the features you could ask for in a camera. Recording quality is crisp and clear, both in daytime and nighttime conditions. The interior rear-facing camera is also excellent. GPS is not included, but there’s an optional (and cheap) attachment that you can also order to add GPS capabilities to the dash cam.

2. BlackVue DR750S-2CH

  • Front and rear-facing cameras (separate)
  • Records at 1080p wide-angle
  • Excellent night vision
  • Loop recording
  • Records at 60 FPS (vs 30 FPS for most)
  • Captures great detail, including license plates
  • GPS recording built-in
  • Great reviews on Amazon

The BlackVue DR759S-2CH is an excellent dash camera, although it’s a bit expensive. It records at 60 frames per second, vs the industry standard of 30FPS. This makes a big difference in capturing license plates and other details. The setup of this camera is actually two separate cameras, with the rear-facing one intended to be placed in the rear window to record behind your car. It does record audio, but the quality is not great.

3. Pruveeo C2

  • Front and rear-facing cameras (separate)
  • Records in 1080P
  • Front-facing camera is good quality; rear-facing not so much
  • GPS tracking not included
  • Supports up to 128gb SD card
  • Loop recording
  • Excellent reviews on Amazon
  • Click here to learn more

The Pruveeo C2 is a high quality camera that’s priced at an affordable level. It’s a great overall camera, although it’s design of 2 separate cameras is not ideal for Lyft drivers. It’s also a bit large (not like our choice of best mini dash cams), which makes it difficult to hide (unlike our picks from the best hidden dash cams). But for the price, it’s a great dash camera for Lyft(Did it made our cheap dash cam list? Find out).

Does Lyft Allow Dash Cams?

Lyft does not specifically prohibit drivers from using dash cams, so you won’t get in trouble for using one. That said, local regulations vary. In some areas, you will need to tell customers that they are being recorded, and in others recording is not allowed at all. Be sure to research regulations in your area!
