Important Part of the Process: DoorDash Driver Referral Code
You cannot have access to the sign-up bonus unless you have a DoorDash driver referral code or referral link.
When signing up to become a Dasher, you will see a Guaranteed Earnings page including the earnings amount and requirements.
Once you’ve signed up, you have to start delivering food within 30 days after activating your account to get access to the sign-up bonus.
Most importantly, you will need a referral code from a current DoorDash driver.
Every Dasher can refer up to 15 new drivers.
Any referrals above 15 will not lead to a sign-up bonus for the new driver.

How To Sign Up For DoorDash to Claim a Bonus
You should get access to that bonus payment once you apply to become a Dasher.
First, you will want to apply through a driver referral link.
You will need to provide your name, email address, and mobile phone number when signing up for DoorDash.
Afterward, DoorDash will complete a background check.
You will need to provide evidence that you are at least 18 years of age, have a driver’s license in your state, and have a vehicle with auto insurance.
You also need to provide your social security number.
Afterward, you will have a DoorDash orientation scheduled.
The last step is to wait for approval before you can authorize your account and start Dashing.
Apply to DoorDash Using a Referral Link
You should start the application process with a referral link from another DoorDash driver.
Ask your friends if they drive for DoorDash or if they know anyone who does.
You can also use social media sites to check if anyone is willing to share a referral link.
Comply With a DoorDash Background Check
You will have to agree to the background check before you can get approval.
The DoorDash background check involves checking any automotive driving violations and criminal history.
Your personal records and public criminal convictions are covered in the background check.
DoorDash uses the company Checkr when screening new drivers. The only information they need is your name and social security number.
The type of things in your background check that can keep you from getting approved include:
- Thefts or break-ins
- Violent and/or sexual crimes
- Property damage crimes
However, that is not an extensive list covering all of the potential issues that may disqualify you from becoming a Dasher.
Every case is different, but the background check helps the company make a final hiring decision.
Schedule a DoorDash Orientation
You will get to schedule a DoorDash orientation and receive a time and place to arrive.
Make sure to take notes when there to avoid making any mistakes on the job.
However, if you cannot make it to an in-person orientation, you can order a Welcome kit instead.
The Welcome Kit includes a hot bag, a red card, and a “Getting Started” manual.
You will get the same information from the manual as from an in-person orientation.
Wait To Get Approved
You will have to wait anywhere from 5 to 10 business days before getting approved to become a Dasher.
The company sends an email to let new drivers know whether they were approved or denied.
Other Types of DoorDash Driver Sign-Up Bonuses
In 2023, DoorDash unveiled the Guaranteed Earnings program as the main sign-up bonus for DoorDash drivers.
In addition, DoorDash driver challenges also provide another avenue for Dashers to make more money.
That includes offering an active challenge in a certain area during a specific timeframe.
Guaranteed Earnings for New Dashers
Guaranteed earnings involve using a driver referral code or link when applying to become a new DoorDash driver.
Afterward, you will gain access to guaranteed earnings (the amount of which depends on the city you apply in) if you complete a certain number of food deliveries within a certain amount of time.
How Do Guaranteed Earnings Work?
As long as you make the set number of deliveries in the required timeframe, guaranteed earnings mean that, even if you earn less upfront money, DoorDash will make up the difference.
Essentially, if DoorDash guaranteed you get $X in the next 45 days for making 250 deliveries, you will get that full amount even if the original payment was $less than that.
How to Determine Eligibility
The Guaranteed Earnings program is not available in all areas.
You will get an email explaining if you are eligible.
Major cities usually provide access to the program.
DoorDash Driver Challenges
DoorDash Driver Challenges are meant to help get food delivered quicker in areas where there are fewer drivers available.
It can also help with smaller, cheaper deliveries without as much incentive.
How Do DoorDash Driver Challenges Work?
DoorDash Driver Challenges are available through the mobile app and are usually offered during specific times and in regions with the most orders.
Drivers may get access to multiple challenges per day, so using the app constantly may help you get more money.
How to Determine Eligibility
All DoorDash drivers can have eligibility for a Driver Challenge.
You are likely to have access if you’re located in an area with many restaurants or a larger population.
New drivers also get targeted more than ones who’ve been around for a while.
The DoorDash sign-up bonus makes the food delivery service a more enticing choice for drivers as compared to other delivery gigs.

Does having a felony automatically disqualify you from working for doordash or are there exceptions?
I just started dashing a couple days ago. Can you please confirm the following sentence: There is no way I can get the sign-on bonus, since I am already all signed up and working.
I just now read your article, and wish I would’ve seen it just 3 days ago! So, I just wanted to double-check, to be sure I’m understanding (that sign-on/referral bonus sure would be a godsend for me)! Thanks 😊 for your great article!
“DoorDash drivers usually make more than $15 per hour.”
Not here in Erie, Pennsylvania we don’t. I’m lucky to hit that on the busiest evenings of the week during dinner hour. Half my time during any dash session is spent waiting to get orders—this is my time that I’m not compensated for, time I could be spending doing other things in my life, like trying to get my house repaired. Most customers in my area are non-tippers and you have to drive too far from the merchant to the customer, putting lots of miles and wear and tear on your car. Even with peak pay, it’s just not worth it. And then you also get unfairly penalized on your ratings if the in-app navigation messes up and the app leaves you no choice other than to remove yourelf from an order you accepted that you wanted, and by people running scams to get free food who say they didn’t get their food, or they claim that the driver did or didn’t do whatever, and there’s no way for drivers to challenge it since we don’t know which customers are giving these unfair 1-star ratings—which hurts us because it puts us lowest in priority for profitable orders and can put a newer driver at risk for deactivation who hasn’t had the opportunity to get over 100 deliveries under their belt yet (essentially, potentially costing some poor struggling senior/widow/disabled worker their only job opportunity). I’m seriously considering going back to medical courrier work which is something I did 30 years ago when I was in my 20s (I’m going on 56 years old and not as strong as I once was), despite the physical difficulties that gig poses for me at my age compared to food delivery, because of all that nonsense.
I found where it is explained. Thank you!
