The 6 Vantrue Dash Cams: Which One Is Best for You?

If you drive for Uber or Lyft, you need to have a dashboard camera. At least, you need to have one if you want to keep yourself safe from lawsuits, passenger misconduct, and attempts to damage or steal from your vehicle.

We won’t spend a lot of time trying to convince you that you need a dash camera, as we already have an entire post on the topic. We’ve also touched on a few different dash cam options to suit a variety of budgets.

In this post, we want to go into more detail about the offerings from a particular dash cam maker whose products have impressed us. The company is called Vantrue, and they make six different dash cams.

Each camera is designed to serve different security and recording needs (as well as different budgets). We’re going to look at every model Vantrue offers, including each model’s features and best uses, and tell you our pick for rideshare drivers.

1. Vantrue N1 Pro Full HD 1920X1080P Mini Dash Cam

At only 2.5×1.95 inches, it’s easy to write off this first camera on the list. But don’t let the small size fool you — this camera is powerful. What’s more, its small size makes it discrete (which the best dash cams are). Unfortunately, it only records what happens outside the vehicle, which isn’t ideal for rideshare drivers.

Here are some of the features this camera offers:

  • 1920x1080P Full HD resolution
  • 160° Wide Angle Lens to capture more of what happens around you
  • Built-in microphone can record audio (though you can turn it off if you prefer)
  • Super Night Vision makes it easy to read important details (like license plate numbers) even in low light
  • 24 Hour Parking Mode uses a built-in motion detector to automatically start recording when something comes near your car
  • Collision Detection functionality causes the camera to automatically turn on and record for 20 seconds when it detects a crash
  • Loop Recording and G-Sensor ensure that your camera will automatically overwrite the oldest files when the memory card is full and locks footage when the camera detects sudden shaking (such as in a crash)
  • Time Lapse Mode helps save space by taking photos at a specified interval and editing them into a video clip
  • Optional GPS Function lets you track location, direction, speed, date, and time in your video clips

Price: $79.99

2. Vantrue N2 Pro Uber Dual Dash Cam

The next entry on our list offers a bit more than the previous one. The crucial difference is that it’s a dual lens dash cam, meaning it records both what happens inside the vehicle and what happens outside. This is a must-have feature for rideshare drivers, as what happens inside the car is usually more important than what happens outside.

Let’s look at some of the camera’s features:

  • Dual 1080P Front and Rear Dash Cam with Snapshot
  • 170° Wide Angle Lens
  • Single Front 2.5K 2560x1440P/30fps or 1920x1080P/60fps recording
  • Parking Mode that automatically starts recording when the camera detects motion near the vehicle
  • Sony Sensor Infrared Night Vision, which is especially useful for recording inside the car at night
  • Built-in microphone and speaker
  • 24 Hour Motion Detection Parking Mode Hardwire Dash Camera
  • Optional GPS to track location, direction, speed, date, and time in your video clips
  • Loop Recording with G-Sensor locks the footage into memory when the camera detects a collision
  • Time Lapse Functionality to save memory
  • Date and time stamp

Price: $199.99

3. Vantrue X1 Pro QHD 2.5K Security Dash Cam

This is another solid dash cam, though it does have the weakness of only recording what happens outside the vehicle. It could still be useful in the case of a traffic collision, however.

Here are the key features of this dash cam:

  • 2.5K 2560x1440P at 30fps Crystal Clear Video
  • 1080P 60fps HD Video and Audio Recording
  • Super Night Vision with F1.8 6-Layer Optical Glass Lens
  • 170° Wide Viewing Angle
  • Auto LCD OFF
  • Continuous Loop Recording and G-sensor
  • 24 Hour Motion Detection Parking Monitor
  • Optional GPS to track speed, route, location

Price: $99.99

4. Vantrue X3 WiFi Dash Cam

Our next dash cam distinguishes itself mainly through its WiFi capability. Through its WiFi connection, you can control the camera and view playback of footage using your iPhone or Android smartphone.

Other than that, it offers the same excellent features as all Vantrue dash cams:

  • 2.5K 2560x1440P at 30fps Crystal Clear Video
  • 1080P at 60fps HD Video and Audio Recording
  • Super Night Vision with F1.8 6-Layer Optical Glass Lens
  • 170° Wide Viewing Angle
  • Auto LCD OFF
  • Continuous Loop Recording and G-sensor
  • 24 Hour Motion Detection Parking Monitor
  • Optional GPS to track speed, route, location
  • Live stream and remote control using WiFi capability

While the WiFi capability and phone control features are helpful, this camera also only records what happens outside the car, making it less than ideal for rideshare drivers.

Price: $139.99

5. Vantrue T1 WiFi Super Capacitor Built-in GPS Dash Cam

This camera is almost identical to the previous one in terms of the features it offers. The main difference is that it’s more minimal. It doesn’t include a built-in LCD display, but its WiFi capability still lets you view the footage on your phone. The absence of the built-in display also makes it a bit cheaper than the X3.

It also differentiates itself through using a supercapacitor for power instead of a lithium battery. This means that it will last longer between charges and better withstand extreme temperatures (which could be useful if you live in an extremely hot or cold climate).

Here are the key features of this camera:

  • 2.5K 2560x1440P at 30fps Crystal Clear Video
  • 1080P at 60fps HD Video and Audio Recording
  • Super Night Vision with F1.8 6-Layer Optical Glass Lens
  • 170° Wide Viewing Angle
  • Continuous Loop Recording and G-sensor
  • 24 Hour Motion Detection Parking Monitor
  • Optional GPS to track speed, route, location
  • Live stream and remote control using WiFi capability

Price: $119.99

6. Vantrue T2 24/7 Surveillance Super Capacitor Dash Cam

Our final camera is similar to the T1, except that it substitutes the WiFi capability for a built-in display. This raises the price significantly, though it doesn’t appear to add many features. If anything, it’s a less capable camera (lower resolution and a smaller viewing angle). It’s still a quality dash cam for recording what happens outside the vehicle, however.

Here are the features this camera offers:

  • 1920x1080P at 30fps or 1280X720P at 30fps
  • Super Night Vision with F1.8 6-Layer Optical Glass Lens
  • 160° Wide Angle Lens
  • Auto LCD OFF
  • Continuous Loop Recording and G-sensor
  • 24 Hour Motion Detection Parking Monitor
  • Optional GPS to track speed, route, location

Vantrue Dash Cams: Which One Wins?

The 6 Vantrue Dash Cams: Which One Is Best for You?

Without question, the Vantrue N2 Pro Uber Dual Dash Cam is the best choice for rideshare drivers. It’s the best choice because it’s the only Vantrue camera that records the inside of the vehicle. All the other cameras are quality, but they don’t include the most important feature for someone who’s transporting passengers.

If you’re just getting a dash cam for exterior security or to protect yourself in the case of traffic accidents, then one of the other cameras in this guide will do just fine. However, we urge you to consider the importance of recording what happens inside your vehicle and choose a camera that can provide that capability.
