Enough time has passed that rideshare isn’t actually something new. Indeed, it was around well before Uber and Lyft made that big appearance; they just carried it into the subsequent stage.
In any case, it appears these days that both Uber and Lyft have left a bit to be improved. This isn’t to say that they aren’t still excellent apps. Still, at the very least, it’s good to know what other rideshare services are out there currently.
This is where Via comes in.

What Is Via Rideshare?
Via is a rideshare app, much like Uber and Lyft. You can get a ride just by using the mobile app. Request a ride whenever, and after a brief wait time (generally just 5 minutes), your ride will arrive to get you at the closest corner. Your driver will then take you to your drop-off point, which will be the corner nearest your destination. Along the way, you share your ride with other passengers headed in the same direction.
In this way, Via is more like public transportation or a streamlined version of UberPOOL. It takes the public transit model of having a series of stops along set routes, which can lead to huge savings compared to a traditional rideshare service. At the same time, however, it’s still faster and more convenient than public transit due to the way it uses the rideshare service model of small cars operated by independent contractor drivers.
Where Is Via Available?
Currently, the app is accessible in just five urban areas.
Here are the places that Via is currently available:
- New York City
- Washington, D.C.
If you don’t live in one of the above areas, then you’re currently out of luck when it comes to using Via. But bear in mind that the company does continue to expand, and it’s possible they could choose your city for their next location. So keep that Via promo code handy! At the very least, it could be useful if you happen to find yourself in the cities above.
What Is a ViaPass?
This is something that sets Via apart from the other rideshare organizations. It’s a pass that you can buy from them if you are a regular customer of theirs and want to save money after you’ve used your Via promo code.
The cost of the pass varies based on your city, but having one has some major advantages. For instance, if live in Manhattan, a one-week ViaPass costs $63 plus tax. It qualifies you for four shared rides for a week. You also get a 10% discount on other kinds of Via rides (such as rides to the airport).
A four-week variant can likewise be obtained for $229 plus tax, which adds up to a decent markdown. You can also buy a four-week commuter pass for $179, which offers a similar markdown for trips on weekdays between 6:00 a.m.–9:00 p.m. Any further details needed can be found on their site.
How Do I Get Started Driving for Via?
If you’ve used your Via promo code and discovered you appreciate the app so much that you want to drive for them, you’re in luck. It’s really simple to do. Truth be told, there are a couple of reasons why driving for Via would be smart.
To start, their service charge is as low as 10 percent. This is much lower than what Uber and Lyft typically charge, which means that you get to keep more of your earnings. The bonus for signing up is as high as $2,000.
They will also enable you to get a vehicle in the event that you don’t have one.
Also, a rather nice thing about them is their software works constantly to help you avoid detours while driving. That means less time driving to pick up passengers, and additional time profiting!

Via Promo Code FAQ
To conclude this guide, here are some answers to some common questions about Via and Via promo codes:
1. Can I use my commuter benefits for Via?
Yes, you can. In addition to paying for Via with a debit or credit card through the Via app, you can also use your commuter benefits to pay for the service (provided your company allows it, of course).
Here are some of the commuter benefits programs that currently work with Via:
- Commuter Check
- Benefit Strategies
- FlexFacts Commuter Benefits Card
- Igoe Administrative Services Benefits Card
To learn more about how to use commuter benefits to pay for Via, talk to the person who manages benefits at your company.
2. Does Via offer gift cards?
The rideshare company does indeed offer gift cards, which means you can help a friend or family member get free credit for Via rides even after they’ve used Via promo codes.
You can purchase Via gift cards in the amounts of $25, $50, $100, and $200. To get your Via gift card, visit the gift card page at Via.com.
3. Is Via safe?
New customers of Via might be wondering if Via is as safe as taking a taxi or public transit. The app is quite safe, since they use real-time GPS tracking to monitor the vehicle’s location at all points during a ride. What’s more, the app lets you leave a review and rating of your driver after each ride.
Knowing these two things, veteran and first-time users of the service shouldn’t worry about safety. Via has built in plenty of accountability into their service, and they also only hire professional, thoroughly vetted drivers.
4. Do Via promo codes expire?
All the codes in this article are updated regularly, so you don’t have to worry about them being expired. We can’t vouch for promo codes from other services, however.
That being said, it’s best to use your promo code right when you sign up for Via. If you don’t, then you can’t apply it after the fact.
5. Does Via offer promo codes for existing users?
The coupon codes in this guide are all for first-time riders. This means you can use the code to get $10 off your first ride, but you can’t use it if you’re already a Via user.
While it can feel like the best discounts are reserved for new users of the service, there are still ways for existing Via users to get discounts off rides. You can use your personal Via referral code to give a $10 discount to others.
When someone signs up with your code and takes their first ride, you’ll get $10 in credit that you can use for rides. If you can share your code enough, then you could find yourself using the on-demand rideshare service for free.
