While Uber offers support via several channels, many users are surprised to learn that they can’t contact Uber over the phone or live chat.
But why doesn’t Uber have a phone number to call?
Here’s what you need to know about whether you can contact Uber via a phone call and what alternatives exist.
Can I Call Uber by Phone?
That depends.
Unfortunately, there is no Uber phone number for most riders.
However, drivers do get access to phone support, as do riders who have reached the Diamond level.
Similarly, there is no way for a passenger to contact an Uber employee via text message outside the mobile app.
The exception is the Critical Safety Response Line, but that is reserved for emergencies in which you require medical or police assistance, such as if your driver got into an accident.
You can call that number (1-800-285-6172) after calling 911.
Why Doesn’t Uber Have a Phone Number?
In the United States, there is currently no way for Uber riders to get in touch with an Uber representative over the phone.
The most likely reason for this is to save money.
Operating a 24/7 support line for all of Uber’s customers would cost a lot of money, cutting down on Uber’s profits.
It takes a lot faster for an Uber agent to copy and paste a message or write a custom one than speak with someone over the phone.
Why Is It So Hard to Talk to Somebody From Uber?
Many Uber riders express frustration at not being able to contact Uber customer service.
Uber has 93 million monthly active users.
Its customer service team sometimes gets overwhelmed by the number of requests coming in, so it can sometimes take a while to get a response.
However, while there is no phone support line, you can still contact customer support and get responses within a few minutes.
Read on to learn how to do that.
How to Contact Uber Support for Riders
There are a few ways to contact Uber support as a passenger.
The best ways are via the contact form in the Uber app and via email.
Contact Form
The easiest way to contact Uber is as follows:
- Log into your Uber account on the mobile app.
- Tap your profile picture in the top-right corner.
- Tap Help.
- Select a ride you need help with, and then tap on one of the following options:
- Find Lost Item
- Report Safety Issue
- Provide Driver Feedback
- Get Trip Help
Depending on the option you select, you’ll find a contact form that you can fill out.
Unfortunately, Uber doesn’t have an email address you can write to.
However, you can go to this page, even without being signed in, and scroll to the bottom to find an email contact form.
Describe your issue and enter an email address so that Uber can contact you via email.
How to Contact Uber Support for Drivers
If you’re an Uber driver, you have additional support options.
Here are the two best ways of contacting Uber as a driver.
App Support
As a driver, you can get in-app support, just like Uber riders.
First, open the app menu and tap Help.
Then, select your issue to find answers.
If you’re experiencing an issue with a rider, tap on Trip Issues and Adjustments.
Then, tap on Issue With a Rider.
As a driver, you can also get help at an Uber Greenlight Hub near you.
You can even book an appointment at a nearby Greenlight Hub in your Uber driver app in some cities.
Call Support
You can also call support directly.
In the United States, you can call Uber from the mobile app.
First, open the menu and tap Help.
Next, find the issue you’re experiencing.
If phone support is available for that issue, you’ll see a call option in the Uber app.
How to Contact Uber Support for Deliveries
If you need help with an Uber Eats order, there are a few options available, whether you’re a customer or a delivery driver.
App Support
You can contact Uber Eats in the Uber Eats app.
First, tap on Account in the bottom-right corner of your screen.
Then, click on Help.
Follow the prompts and select the issue you’re dealing with.
It’s also possible to get help with Uber Eats orders in the regular Uber app.
Tap on your profile picture and select Help.
At the top of the screen, click on Food instead of Rides.
Then, select an order or issue.
You can also head to help.uber.com/ubereats.
Social Media Support
Not many people know this, but one of the best ways to get a quick response from the Uber support team is by contacting Uber via social media.
However, it’s critical to know which social media account to message.
For Uber rides and Uber Eats orders, the right Twitter account to send a private message to is @Uber_Support.
There is a separate account for Uber Eats, but that account doesn’t handle support requests.
There are a few ways to get the attention of the team monitoring the Uber Support Twitter account.
I recommend sending them a private message by clicking the mail icon next to their profile picture.
At the same time, though, I also recommend publicly tweeting at them.
Do that by clicking on the blue Tweet button on the left side of your screen (on a desktop).
You can also start drafting a tweet from any page and start it with “@Uber_Support” (without the quotes).
Uber wants to maintain its public image, so it will respond quickly if you publicly tweet them.
What will typically happen next is that an Uber support rep will send you a private DM.
Sometimes, Uber will also text you in your app at the same time.
To make it easier for Uber to link your Twitter message to your account, provide your name, email address, and details about the issue you’re facing in the private message you send them on Twitter.
While Twitter should be your go-to social media support channel, you can also try sending Uber a message on Facebook by heading to the Uber Facebook page and clicking the blue Send Message button.
How to Get Uber Support Over the Phone
Unfortunately, in the United States, the only way you can get Uber phone support is if you’re a driver or delivery driver.
However, there are two exceptions.
The first is if you are facing a serious safety issue, like a drunk driver.
First, call 911.
Then, go to this page (on your phone) to call the Critical Safety Incident Reporting Line.
It’s reserved for emergencies only.
Also, if you’re an Uber Diamond rider, you’ll get access to 24/7 customer support over the phone as well.
Uber Diamond
Uber Diamond is the top level of the Uber Rewards program for riders.
You can unlock Diamond by earning 7,500 points on rides and Uber Eats orders.
In addition to a dedicated phone line, your in-app messages will be given priority over those from other members.
In addition, Diamond members receive complimentary upgrades, and three Uber Eats orders with zero delivery fees.
You can join the Uber Rewards program and start earning points here.
Final Word
Hopefully, this article helped you figure out how to finally contact Uber support.
I recommend sending an in-app message and also contacting them on Twitter, both via private DM and by publicly tweeting at them.
In your private DM message, provide your personal information so that they can link the message to your in-app ticket request.
