Unboxing the Varla Eagle One Electric Scooter

The Varla marketing team shipped me this scooter, and as I was waiting for it to arrive, I was overwhelmed with anticipation.

I have previously written about the best electric scooters for heavy adults, as well as the best 50 mph electric scooters, but we’ve never tested anything as powerful as this.

So to say I was excited to get this in the mail was an understatement.

When it finally arrived, I was surprised at just how heavy the box was. I could tell immediately that I was about to unpack some serious hardware.

The packaging was robust and well-designed, ensuring that the product arrived in excellent condition.

A big thumbs up for the protective packaging and professional presentation – it’s evident that Varla takes care in ensuring their product reaches the customer safely.

As I mentioned above, the scooter was incredibly heavy, so I was not able to really lift it out of the box easily.

I tipped the box on its side and slid everything out of the cardboard, then carefully removed the packaging protecting the unit.

When I took the scooter out of the box, the first thing that struck me was the unit’s solid, robust build quality.

The scooter’s sturdy aluminum frame makes an immediate impression – it’s built to last.

The dual motors and large, 10-inch pneumatic tires were also noticeable upon unboxing. They indicated a powerful, yet smooth ride.

The weight of the scooter did lead me to belive that some might find its weight of 77lbs to be a bit on the heavier side.

But.. if you’re buying a scooter that promises to go 40mph, you probably shouldn’t be worried about the weight.

Once I removed the packaging, I got a full picture of everything that was included:

• A mostly-assembled scooter
• Assembly hardware for the handlebars
• A spare tube for the tires
• A battery charger
• An instructional guide
• Extra deck covers (grip tape)

I wasn’t expecting the additional deck covers, but thought that was a really nice touch to include.

Assembling the Varla Eagle One Electric Scooter

The assembly process of the Varla Eagle One is remarkably straightforward.

The scooter comes mostly pre-assembled in the box, with the main body, wheels, and motor all put together already.

This is a great relief, especially for those who might be less mechanically inclined.

However, the instructions made it very simple to understand how to do the little assembly that was required.

The first thing that I needed to do was stand the scooter up and clamp down the hardware that holds the handlebars upright.

This was easy enough.

I also want to point out that there are redundant clasps that clamp down. If one comes undone, in theory, the second should hold.

I would give these a good inspection before every ride just to be on the safe side.

The hardware appears to be incredibly strong as well, which gave me peace of mind before even riding it.

Aside from that, the only significant part that needs attaching is the handlebars, which can be fixed to the stem.

The handlebars are easy to mount and secure, thanks to the clear instructions provided. The process hardly takes more than a few minutes.

As far as I could tell, the unit did not ship with an Allen wrench. For a scooter at this price point, I would expect to not have to use my own, but if it did come with one, I must have missed it in the box.

Once the handlebars are attached, it’s a simple matter of securing the four screws.

The screws fit snugly and ensure a tight and secure connection between the handlebars and the body of the scooter.

The next step is to check the tires. The 10-inch pneumatic tires come partially inflated, so you’ll need to top them up a bit. Having a pump handy will save time here.

I did appreciate the additional tube that came included. This is yet another indicator that the Varla team thought of the rider when assembling this product.

After I put the handlebars on, I then changed out the deck cover.

The scooter comes standard with a skull surrounded by flames, which wasn’t really my favorite design style.

Instead, I opted for the helicopter.

Changing out the tape wasn’t that hard. I just ran a pen around the outside of the material, slowly pulling up enough that I could grab into with my fingers.

Then, I slowly removed the stock cover and then replaced the old one with the new.

In all, the replacement took me about 5 minutes or so.

Once the handlebars are secured, tires are inflated, and your have the deck cover of your choice, you’re ready to power on the scooter. Once fully assembled, this beast was ready to ride.

Charging the Varla Eagle One Electric Scooter

Charging the Varla Eagle One is a process that is simple and straightforward, yet important to understand.

Starting with the basics, the scooter comes with a dedicated charger that connects to a power port located on the side of the deck.

The placement of the port is convenient and accessible, preventing any awkward bending or fumbling.

One of the key features is the dual charging system, allowing users to charge the scooter using two chargers simultaneously.

This drastically reduces the charging time to around 4-5 hours. That’s impressive for a scooter with such a large battery capacity. However, do keep in mind that the second charger needs to be purchased separately.

For a standard charge with a single charger, the estimated time is around 8-9 hours. This might seem lengthy, but it’s standard for electric scooters with such an expansive range.

And considering the Varla Eagle One offers a whopping 40-mile range on a single charge, the waiting time feels justified.

The light is red when charging and turns green once the battery is fully charged, which takes away the guesswork.

Although charging electric scooters overnight is a common practice, it’s important to avoid overcharging as it can affect the battery’s longevity.

Thankfully, the Eagle One comes with overcharge protection, giving users peace of mind.

My Experience With the Varla Eagle One Electric Scooter

The scooter’s design is sleek and attractive, with its black body and red detailing offering a great aesthetic appeal.

However, the size of the scooter might be a bit intimidating for first-time users.

The LED display lights up brightly and clearly displays the scooter’s status, adding to the excitement of the initial assembly process.

Upon turning it on, the LED display immediately stood out – it’s bright and easy to read, providing clear information about speed, battery life, and the selected drive mode.

It is super easy to use and understand as well. I’ll let their instruction manual speak for itself though:

I recently tested the ultra-portable LevyPlus+ scooter, which folds up nicely and is easy to carry around. This is not within that same category.

Despite its weight and size, maneuvering it is quite easy thanks to the hydraulic brakes and responsive controls.

It’s clear from the first ride that this scooter is built for speed and power, tackling steep hills and rough terrains without breaking a sweat.

The dual motors work in sync to provide a seamless riding experience, and the suspension system does an exceptional job at absorbing shocks, offering comfort even on the bumpiest of paths.

It didn’t matter if I was riding this on the street, grass, gravel, or dirt, the scooter did exactly what it was supposed to do. And allthewhile the ride was incredibly comfortable.

What I Liked About the Varla Eagle One Electric Scooter

There’s plenty to like about the Varla Eagle One. The power and speed are the real standouts – reaching up to 40 mph and conquering steep inclines with ease.

This is the kind of performance that you need in an off-road scooter, and Varla Eagle One delivers spectacularly in that department.

My favorite thing to do while riding it was to open up the throttle on long straightaways. While this is a thrilling experience, I must warn you that doing so, while standing up, at top speeds is dangerous. Do so at your own risk.

The scooter’s build quality is another major plus. It feels robust and durable, designed to withstand heavy-duty use.

The 10-inch pneumatic tires provide excellent traction and contribute significantly to a comfortable ride, even on rough terrains.

The scooter’s IP54 rating for water and dust resistance offers reassurance for those worried about taking it out in less than ideal weather conditions.

On top of that all, the scooter’s wide deck made my feel safe, secure, and stuck in place. Combined with the grip tape, this felt like a very safe and comfortable ride.

What I Didn’t Like About the Varla Eagle One Electric Scooter

Despite its many strengths, the Varla Eagle One isn’t without its drawbacks.

Its heavyweight can be a con for some users, especially when it comes to portability. Weighing over 70 pounds, it’s not the kind of scooter you can easily carry around.

The bulky size might also be a problem for people with limited storage space.

Moreover, the charging time is quite long at 8-9 hours with a standard charger.

While this is understandable given the scooter’s powerful 52V 18.2Ah battery, an included fast charger would have been a significant improvement.

Finally, the scooter lacks a mobile app integration for more detailed ride statistics and control customizations which are common with many other e-scooters.

Conclusion: Is the Varla Eagle One Electric Scooter Worth It?

The Varla Eagle One is a powerful and reliable electric scooter that promises thrilling rides and sturdy off-road performance.

With its dual 1000W motors that can push the scooter to reach speeds of up to 40 mph, and a robust suspension system that provides an impressively smooth ride on bumpy terrains, this e-scooter stands out in the crowd of competitors.
