1.It’s Basically Carpooling

It is an on-demand carpooling service that saves riders money, but also reduces carbon emissions and helps out the environment in the long run.

The entire purpose of Lyft Line is to encourage drivers and riders to occupy all available seats in the car. Like other carpooling services such as UberPool, Lyft Line connects riders with other riders who are headed in the same direction.

It opens up an avenue for more riders to connect with other Lyft users and make using Lyft more fun and affordable.

2. From Point A to B Only

Lyft Line is unlike a regular Lyft ride where riders can change their drop-off points and make multiple stops. For this service, riders can only go from Point A to Point B. This makes sense, as there will likely be multiple pickups of other Lyft riders.

Rest assured, the Lyft system will be managing pickups and dropoffs and calculating the best routes for riders going the same direction. If a rider wishes to make a stop along the way, the driver can politely ask the rider to cancel their booking and request a regular Lyft ride instead.

4. Don’t Bring (a lot) of Luggage

Riders must be mindful of this tip if they choose to use the Lyft Line service. If they are bringing a lot of luggage with them, drivers may ask them politely to cancel their booking and take a regular Lyft ride instead.

Space is a premium for this service. This is the price riders have to pay for the convenience and savings brought by Lyft Line. If riders are bringing a lot of luggage with them, booking a regular Lyft car may be more appropriate.

5. Respect Fellow Riders

In carpooling, people from all walks of life might end up in the same car together. Therefore, passengers have to conduct themselves accordingly when riding with other people and be sensitive to each other’s needs.

The same principle applies to Lyft users who choose to take Lyft Line. They will most likely be matched with strangers who may or may not have the same views and opinions.

With that said, respect is the number one virtue all riders have to practice when using this service. Although riders cannot rate their fellow carmates during a ride, common sense dictates behavior.

6. Not Safe for Rushing

Lyft Line connects users to fellow riders who are headed in the same direction. The matches are dictated by the Lyft system itself, which drivers have no control over.

This means that riders will not always be the first to be picked up or dropped off. Therefore, it is useful to note that those riders who are rushing to get to their destination should not take Lyft Line.

Drivers will always follow the directions put forth by Lyft and their navigation app, and riders will have no say on who gets picked up or dropped off first.

7. Don’t Bring Pets

While everyone loves their furry friends, pets are a difficult topic when it comes to carpooling — especially with Lyft Line. It is true that some Lyft drivers will allow pets in the car, but this etiquette usually only works for regular Lyft rides.

With Lyft Line, other people may not be as open to the idea of sharing a ride with a furry friend. Allergies or phobias may prevent other Lyft riders from using the service.

Therefore, unless the pet is a service animal that is dictated by law, pets are, as a rule, not allowed on Lyft Line.
