Does the thought of being a “legal drug dealer” sound perfect to you?
Keep reading to learn the basics of what it takes to sign up, drive, and deliver for Eaze.
What is it Like Working for Eaze?
If you’ve ever worked for a delivery service such as DoorDash or Postmates, driving for Eaze isn’t that much different. You wait for orders to come in, fill the order, and you deliver it to the “patient.”
Drivers log into the app and see orders as they come in. Drivers closest in proximity to the customer get the order to keep delivery times to a minimum. In some cases, delivery can take as little as four or five minutes.
Drivers get the order and delivery address as well as a photo of the patient. When they reach the destination, all they have to do is verify that the patient has a valid ID and turnover the product packaged in a little paper bag.
The main difference between Eaze and other delivery services is that Eaze drivers ride around with the product already in their car. Drivers start a shift with up to 8 ounces of weed – the legal limit that you can carry in the state of California.
Unlike other services, there’s no time wasted by having to drive to a restaurant or store to pick up the order. When the order comes in, you fill it from the supply in your car and drive directly to the patient’s location.
If you know someone who drives for Eaze and you really want to get an idea of what it’s like to be a delivery driver, do a ride along.
How Do I Sign Up to Become an Eaze Driver?
Interested in the idea of becoming a legal drug dealer? To become a weed delivery driver for Eaze there are a few things you’ll need to do.
You’ll have to answer a series of questions, including the basics such as your name, age, phone number, and the type of vehicle you drive. You’ll also need to provide a copy of your valid driver’s license, a photo of your vehicle, and proof of registration and insurance.
Eaze will ask you some additional questions, such as what type of phone you have and how old the phone is (phones must be less than 3 years old).
They’ll also ask what city you want to work in and whether you prefer weekday, evening, morning, or weekend shifts.
When you’re done answering the questions you will have to consent to a background check.
Once Eaze receives your completed application they will review it and process your background check. Shortly thereafter you’ll get a response to let you know whether or not you’ve been approved. Once you’re approved you’ll have to do a phone interview. If you pass that, you’ll also need to do an in-person interview.
Depending on the need for drivers, it can take several weeks for an interview to open up. Don’t be discouraged – this is normal, especially if there are already a lot of drivers working lots of shifts in your area already.
You’ll also need to be photographed and fingerprinted by the police department. Group training sessions are involved and vehicle inspections are required. Within a few days of the interview, you can be on the road, stocking your car with supplies, making deliveries, and making money!

Eaze Driver Requirements
The process of getting hired for Eaze may be more difficult than signing up for other delivery services, but the requirements are similar.
You must be at least 21 years old to drive for Eaze. Your vehicle must be a 2004 model or newer, and your name must be on the registration. It goes without saying that you need to hold a valid driver’s license.
“Vehicles must be year 2004 or newer. A reliable car/SUV/minivan with a dedicated trunk is required (trunk covers required for hatchbacks). No cargo vans. Trucks/pickups are not eligible, no exceptions.”
Cars also must have a working car alarm, which is a requirement we have not seen on any other delivery service. You must also provide proof of insurance. The insurance policy must be in your name – it cannot be in anyone else’s name.
Other than that, the only requirement is that you must be able to pass a criminal background check. If you have any criminal history, you won’t be eligible to drive for Eaze.
Is This Even Legal?
The first question that most people have when they hear about Eaze is “is this even legal?” The answer is yes and no.
As far as the federal government is concerned, with the exception of medical marijuana, weed is illegal. That means you can’t buy it, own it, smoke it, or sell it. And you certainly can’t transport it or deliver it from point A to point B.
Different states have different laws as to how many grams are legal to possess. But overall, it is still considered a Schedule 1 drug (the same category as LSD, ecstasy, and peyote).
But recreational marijuana is legal in the golden state. So as long as you deliver, buy, and smoke your weed in the state of California, you’ll be good to go.
At the current count, recreational marijuana is legal in ten states. Those include Alaska, California, Colorado, Maine, Massachusetts, Michigan, Nevada, Oregon, Vermont, and Washington. In fact, there are only three states in which it is completely illegal for all purposes: South Dakota, Idaho, and Nebraska. All other states have legalized marijuana for medical use, though some states do have limitations and restrictions on its use.
Many states have only legalized medical marijuana in the past few years. So it may only be a matter of time before recreational use becomes legal in all (or most) states.
At this time, the only place where Eaze operates legally is in the great state of California. If you live anywhere else, you won’t be able to drive for the service unless and until it becomes available in your town.
How Much do Eaze Drivers Get Paid?
The second question that everyone has about Eaze is “how much do Eaze drivers make?” The fact is, you can actually make a decent wage driving for Eaze.
Unlike similar services such as DoorDash, Postmates, and Uber Eats, Eaze drivers are employees. They are not independent contractors. That means they actually receive a traditional W-2 form at the end of the year. Taxes are withheld like they are with any traditional job. When you work for a delivery service as an independent contractor, you are responsible for withholding and paying taxes on your own.
As an independent you have to pay estimated taxes throughout the year. If you don’t, you’ll have a hefty bill to pay come April. And when you’re not an “employee” of any company, you have to get in the habit of saving aside X amount of dollars each week from your earnings. Unless you hold aside more than your tax bill requires, you can forget about getting a refund at the end of the year.
But the benefit of working as an employee isn’t even the greatest part about Eaze. What really makes a difference is the mileage reimbursement.
Independent contractors are also allowed to deduct mileage from their total earnings at the end of the year. But using mileage as a deduction doesn’t equate to getting that money reimbursed dollar for dollar. A mileage reimbursement will always put more money in your pocket than a mileage tax deduction.
No other delivery app that we know of offers mileage reimbursement like Eaze. We’ve seen stats from drivers who drive pretty much the same amount of hours and the same amount of miles for Eaze as they do for DoorDash. When they factor in the mileage reimbursement and tax obligations, they’re making more than $10 an hour MORE working with Eaze.
Drivers also have the ability to earn tips. Tips for all delivery services are optional. But Eaze drivers report making more in tips than they do for other similar services that deliver food or groceries.
Where is Eaze Available?
Currently, Eaze is only available in the state of California. You can order weed from Eaze in over 100 cities in and around the San Francisco Bay Area, Los Angeles, Marin County, Napa, Sonoma, Sacramento, and San Diego. For a complete list of cities that Eaze delivers to, click here.
Their hours of operation vary by city, but for the most part, you can get deliveries between 9 in the morning and 10 at night.
But all of that might be changing. Recreational cannabis is becoming legal in more and more states all the time. That means we won’t be surprised if we see Eaze expanding into other states and other markets in the near future.
There’s no question about it – Eaze is changing the way people in California get their weed. Gone are the days of shady corner drug deals or running in and out of someone’s house to pick up or drop off a bag. The concept of weed delivery may still be new to some, but it’s quickly becoming the method of choice for many smokers up and down the west coast.
Eaze drivers have the opportunity to make some decent money too. As an employee, rather than an independent contractor, you’ll earn a set hourly wage and be reimbursed for mileage.
In comparison to other delivery services, drivers claim that they make a lot more working for Eaze. Drivers report earning over $26 per hour, as opposed to earning just $14 per hour working the same hours and driving the same amount of miles for DoorDash.
As long as you don’t mind driving and spending several hours at a time in your car, working for Eaze is easy. You stock your car with a supply from the dispensary, grab orders as they come through the app, and deliver the product straight to the customer’s door. It allows for a flexible schedule, making it perfect for anyone looking for a part-time gig or new way to make money doing something they love.
At the moment, Eaze is only available in the state of California. But that could change as more and more states legalize recreational marijuana. If you’re interested in becoming a customer or a driver, keep checking back to see if and when Eaze might come to your town.
