Lyft has established itself as a household name for ridesharing, offering a friendly and comfortable environment for passengers along with a variety of advantages, perks, and benefits.

But did you know that you can unlock even more advantages with Lyft’s special membership program?

This one is known as “Lyft Pink” and comes with an incredible variety of features that make it a worthy investment for many.

If you’re interested in finding out more about Lyft Pink, you’ve come to the right place. Keep reading as I explain what Lyft Pink is and how it can benefit its users.

What Is Lyft Pink?

Lyft Pink is a premium subscription service offered by Lyft, designed for frequent riders.

For a monthly fee of $19.99 or an annual fee of $199, members receive a 15% discount on all rides, along with additional benefits like free Lyft scooter and bike rides.

The membership program unlocks a huge variety of exclusive benefits and additional perks that you won’t get with standard Lyft service, even with premium rides.

Lyft Pink is a subscription service, not a premium ride mode. This means that you need to pay monthly or annual fees to enjoy its advantages. For that reason, Lyft Pink is perfect for frequent riders who use rideshare services more than two to three times a week.

What many people don’t know is that Lyft Pink isn’t the first membership program the company offers.

In fact, Pink had a predecessor experimental service that Lyft launched in 2018. However, many users complained that the service was quite pricey and didn’t offer much, so it wasn’t a great value for the money.

As a result, Lyft revised its service and released Lyft Pink in the following year with a lot more advantages and features while costing significantly less than the original plan.

Since 2019, Lyft has added a variety of new features and perks to its services, encouraging more users to apply for membership.

Who Can Get Lyft Pink?

Lyft Pink is available to all personal account users of Lyft in the United States, regardless of their location, be it large cities or small towns. However, it is not currently available in Canada.

The 15% discount benefit of Lyft Pink does not apply to business account rides, but users with business accounts can switch to their personal accounts to use Lyft Pink benefits.

Key Features of Lyft Pink

When you purchase a Lyft Pink subscription, you unlock a handful of exclusive benefits. These include:

  • Exclusive Ride Discounts: With Lyft Pink, you’ll get a discount of 5% on all Lyft rides. The discount applies to both Lyft Standard and Lyft XL. You also get an extra 10% off on Black and Black SUV rides.
  • Free Priority Pickup: Lyft allows you to get a ride quicker by matching you with closer riders for a higher price. With Lyft Pink, you get this upgrade for free, saving you an average of $3 to $4 value per ride.
  • Free one-year GrubHub+: Lyft partnered with GrubHub in 2020 so that Pink Subscribers can enjoy a full year of GrubHub+ and Seamless+ after subscribing.
  • Free SIXT Rental Upgrade: If you’re a Lyft Pink member, you can get free upgrades when you rent a car on SIXT.
  • Free Lost and Found: If you lost an item in your Lyft ride, you’ll have it returned for a fee (usually $15). However, as a Lyft Pink member, you don’t have to worry about it.
  • Free Monthly Scooter Unlocks: Lyft Pink also offers 12 free 30-minute scooters and e-bike unlocks per year.
  • Discounted E-Bike And Scooter Rate: You’ll also get discounted rates for the paid ones. Keep in mind that this is a Lyft Pink All Access feature, which is a higher-tier subscription plan.
  • Enhanced Cancellation Forgiveness: Lyft charges a cancellation fee if you cancel your ride after 5 minutes of booking. With Lyft Pink, you can cancel up to three times for free every month.

Note: For ride cancellations, you’ll still need to re-book a ride within 15 minutes to get your cancelation fee refund. If you don’t cancel and don’t show up for the ride, the cancellation fee will still apply.

Lyft Pink Cost

This one is the basic membership plan, offering all the standard features of Lyft Pink. The plan costs $9.99 per month. However, if you opt for the annual plan, you’ll pay $99 only instead of $120.89. This saves around $20.88 in the process.

Members can switch from the monthly to the annual plan at any time, with the remaining monthly membership fee being refunded and the annual fee of $199 charged immediately. The annual plan also includes longer free bike rides compared to the monthly plan.

Lyft Pink All Access Cost

If you’re looking for upgraded features, both in quality and quantity, you should opt for the All Access version. This one is available only as an annual plan, costing you $199.9 per year.

As you can see, it costs almost twice as much as the standard Lyft Pink. however, it comes with many premium travel perks and features, such as:

  • Unlimited bike rides and scooter unlocks
  • Exclusive access to the Bike Angels program which offers various monthly rewards
  • Free Scooter and bike guest passes

If you’re a J.P. Morgan Reserve or Chase Sapphire Reserve card member, you can enjoy two free years + 50% discount on the third year when subscribing to Lyft Pink All Access. However, you need to activate this offer before December 31, 2024.

How to Pay for Lyft Pink

To pay for your Lyft Pink membership, you can only use debit and credit cards. Keep in mind that you can’t use prepaid cards to pay the membership fees.

You also can’t use Paypal, Venmo, and mobile payments like Apple and Google Pay for Lyft Pink membership. However, you can still use them all to pay for Lyft Ride themselves.

Does Lyft Pink Offer a Free Trial Version?

Yes, interested users can enjoy a 1-month free trial of Lyft Pink, although this doesn’t apply to Lyft Pink All Access features. Lyft also offers promotional deals and discounts on its memberships occasionally, so you can get one at a discounted rate through coupon codes.

Lyft Pink will also renew itself automatically using the same payment method you’ve subscribed with. If it doesn’t work, the system will automatically try other payment methods that you’ve saved on the Lyft database.

Who Benefits Most from Lyft Pink?

Ideally, anyone can benefit from a Lyft Pink membership. However, some riders will find this subscription plan a lot more advantageous than others, including:

  • Frequent Riders: Those who use Lyft more than four times a week can benefit from the 5% discount on all rides (up to 15% with certain rides)
  • Budget-Conscious Commuters: If you commute with Lyft Pink, you can save a remarkable sum on your long trips. This includes those who regularly travel to and from airports.
  • Scooter Users and Car Renters: This alone can justify the membership, as it can quickly make up for the costs.

Comparing Lyft Pink with Regular Lyft Services

A recent report shows that the average cost of a Lyft ride is around $13.36. Based on that number, you can start benefiting from Lyft Pink if you use the service as little as three to four times a week.

Of course, some rides can cost you more than that. In that case, Lyft Pink would be an even better value.

Additionally, the membership offers extra benefits that can be translated into real savings, such as GrubHub+. This one is worth $10 per month on its own, so it saves you up to $120 per year.

Brett’s Take: Thoughts From an Expert

My personal take is that the subscription services (Lyft Pink and Uber One) are not worth it unless you are a power user of rideshare or delivery services.

I have had both an Uber One and Lyft Pink membership, for multiple times, and I end up cancelling them every time simply because I am paying for something I don’t use that often.

I also live in the suburbs, though, and don’t use Lyft or Uber unless I am travelling or out on the town and don’t feel comfortable driving after a few drinks.

The ride savings only add up to $1 or $2 per ride, but if you do use Lyft often enough already, then those savings will eventually eclipse the cost of the subscription.

Getting Lyft Pink may be worth it depending on your usage and spending on Lyft services.

It’s beneficial for frequent Lyft users, especially for premium rides, offering a 5% discount, priority airport pickups, three free cancellations per month, complimentary Grubhub+ membership, free bike or scooter unlocks, and perks during peak hours. It’s particularly valuable for Chase Sapphire Reserve® cardholders.

However, it may not be worth it for infrequent users who spend less than $135 monthly on rides, prefer cheaper ride options, or have had negative experiences with the service. Difficulty in canceling and variable pricing can also detract from its value.

In summary, Lyft Pink suits frequent users and those utilizing additional perks, but may not be cost-effective for occasional or budget-conscious riders.

Pros of Lyft Pink

You’ll get discounted Lyft rides for all fare types.

There will be free scooter and bike rides (in select cities).

You won’t have to worry about canceling a ride if the driver is not moving towards you.

Grubhub and Seamless users can enjoy free delivery.

If you spend a certain amount of money on Lyft or Grubhub each month, the savings make it automatically worth it.

Cons of Lyft Pink

It doesn’t apply to business rides.

There are no partial refunds given after cancellation.

You can’t pay your Lyft Pink membership fee with a prepaid card, Google Pay, Apple Pay, Venmo, PayPal, commuter benefits, or gift cards, even though you can use them to pay for rides.
