If you don’t have a credit card or debit card to pay for Uber, don’t sweat.

Many other payment method options make using the Uber app quick and easy.

Uber accepts multiple forms of digital payment, from credit and debit cards to PayPal, Venmo, and digital wallets.

But when you want to update your payment methods, it’s important to understand the Uber update credit card process.

How to Update a Credit Card on Uber

Updating a credit card on Uber is similar to deleting one.

You’ll just edit the card information instead of deleting it.

Open Your User Settings in the Uber App

See step 1 above.

Tap the Payment Method You Wish to Update

You’ll see the card information.

Above the “Remove payment method” option, you’ll see a pencil icon next to the word “Edit.”

Tap “Edit”

This will open a screen where you can change your card number, expiration date, CVV, country, and zip code and provide an optional nickname for the card.

How to Add a Payment Method to Uber

Adding a new payment method to Uber is simple.

You can add and edit payment methods via the web browser or in the Uber app.

Since most people use Uber on their phones, we’ll go through the process of adding a payment method via the mobile app.

Open the Uber app

You should be logged in by default.

If you are not, log in.

Tap Your User Profile Picture in the Top Right Corner

This opens your account settings.

You’ll see your name, star rating, Uber rewards, special offers and announcements, messages, and settings.

You’ll also see the “Payment” icon.

Tap the “Payment” Icon

This opens your Uber Wallet.

At the top, you’ll see your current Uber Cash balance (you’ll only see money here if you’ve previously topped up your Uber Cash.)

Below Uber Cash, you’ll see your current payment methods.

Tap “Add Payment Method or Redeem Gift Card”

If you have a lot of payment methods, you may need to scroll down to find this part.

Choose the Type of Payment Method You Want to Add

You’ll see options for Credit or Debit cards, Cash, Commuter Benefits, PayPal, and Gift Card.

Add Your Card Detail or Payment Information

Depending on what payment method you chose, you’ll need to input your credit card info, PayPal info, or other information.

How to Delete a Payment Method on Uber

Sometimes the steps above aren’t what you’re looking for.

Instead, you may want to remove a credit card from your Uber account.

The steps for deleting a payment method are simple.

Open Your User Settings in the Uber App

You can do this by repeating steps 1 and 2 above.

Tap the Payment Method You Wish to Delete

This opens up a detail page for that payment method.

You’ll see the last 4 digits of the card number or account number, the expiration date, and other information.

Tap “Remove Payment Method”

You should see a red “x” in a circle next to the words “Remove payment method.”

Tapping this will open a small screen that asks if you’re sure you want to remove the payment method.

Tap “Delete” to remove it.

To go back, tap “Cancel.”

What Payment Methods Can You Use on Uber?

You can use virtually any payment method to pay for an Uber ride.

In addition, the app makes it easy to input your credit card info or other payment method information.

Credit Cards

Uber accepts cards from any major credit card issuer, including Visa, American Express, Chase Ultimate Rewards, and Discover.

Some credit cards have special deals with Uber that give you greater rewards when using the app.

The best credit cards for Uber include the American Express Gold Card and Platinum Card, Chase Sapphire Reserve, and Ink Business Preferred Credit Card.

Uber used to have their own Uber credit card through Barclays, but it was discontinued.

However, it is rumored to be relaunching in 2022.

Debit Cards

Uber has their own Uber Visa card.

Use this card to get rewards and cashback at gas stations and auto parts stores.

The card gives you 1% cashback overall, plus 3% at Exxon Mobil stations and 15% off oil changes at Jiffy Lube.

There is no annual fee for the card.

You can use any debit card to purchase an Uber service through your Uber account.

Gift Cards

You can buy an Uber gift card at any participating retail store.

You can also send an Uber gift card digitally through the app or use the Uber business portal to buy more than ten cards at once for your business.

The Uber gift card is the only form of gift card that Uber accepts.

PayPal

Believe it or not, Uber takes PayPal.

It’s easy to hook up your PayPal account to Uber.

Select the PayPal option when adding a new payment method to your Uber account.

PayPal gives you the option to withdraw funds directly from your bank account or hook up a credit or debit card.

When you use PayPal to pay for Uber, Uber will deduct payment from your chosen method.

Venmo

Using Venmo to pay for a purchase on Uber or Uber Eats is just as easy as paying with PayPal.

Choose “Venmo” when selecting a different payment option for your Uber account.

Digital Wallet

You can hook up your Google Pay or Apple Pay digital wallet to pay for Uber.

Just look for the “digital wallet” option under “Payment methods” and choose the wallet you’d like to use.

Uber Cash

Uber Cash allows you to pay for rides in advance.

Just tap the Uber Cash option, add funds to your Uber Cash balance, and choose a payment option.

When you pay, Uber will deduct the total prepaid amount from your payment method.

Next, choose Uber Cash as your preferred payment method.

As long as Uber Cash is your chosen method, Uber will deduct payment for a service from your Uber Cash balance.

*Uber Cash is not available in all areas.

Check the available payment methods for your account.*

Final Word

Part of Uber’s incredible customer service is its commitment to making payment quick and easy.

With the plethora of payment options available, you should be able to find one that suits your needs.

Contact Uber support if you have difficulty adding, updating, or deleting your payment information.
