Instacart Promo Codes for New Users
Instacart doesn’t publicly offer any promo codes, but it does have an excellent referral program that allows new customers to get money off their first order.
The best way to find an active invite code is by asking a friend or family member who’s a current Instacart user. Your friend simply needs to go to the account section of their Instacart app and tap “Invite Friends” to share their personal promo code with you. When you sign up with their code and make your first purchase, they’ll receive an equal amount of money back.
Alternatively, you can head to coupon code sites like RetailMeNot or CNN Coupons to find codes shared directly from other users. Here are the best coupon codes we found that are active as of April 2020:
- Get $20 off your first order with this referral link or the promo code SGENTES19E
- Get $10 off your first order with this referral link or the promo code AMENARD2F710F
These popular Instacart promo codes are used up fast due to demand. The company only allows each invite code to be used five times. In addition, it appears that the referral program is currently limited, and not every user has a link to share.
If the listed links or promo codes aren’t working for you, you can alternatively sign up for Instacart through the Drop app for some cash back. Drop is a mobile app that is currently offering 400 points (the equivalent of 40 cents) back if you sign up for the grocery delivery service and make your first order.
In order to do so, you will need to download the Drop app on your iPhone or Android first and follow the prompts to sign up. When signing up for Drop, you can use the codes “jsxxd” or “8nwdo” to get $5 free (after reaching 1,000 points), which you can put toward your next Instacart order.
How to Apply Instacart Promo Codes
Once you’ve found your promo code or link, applying it is the easy part.
Claiming your promo code is basically the same process whether you use the app or via the website. Follow these simple steps to claim your promo code:
1. Sign up on the website or download the app
Head over to the Instacart website and sign up for an account. The app can also be downloaded from the Google Play or App store.
You can download the app here:
2. Go to your account
Go to your account and click on the section that says ‘’Add Promo Code’’. If you’re using the app, you can click on your profile icon.
3. Enter your promo code
A screen will pop up where you can enter the promo code. Once you have entered your code, click ‘’redeem’’.
4. Promotion Applied
Once you have redeemed your code, you will get a confirmation screen confirming that your promo code has been applied to your account.
You won’t have any problems entering your promo code by applying the above steps, but If your Instacart promo code doesn’t want to work, there might be a few reasons why:
- Promo code has expired: There are a few that don’t have an expiration date, but most promo codes expire after a certain time; usually after 30 days. If you apply the code to your account and use it after the expiry date, the credit will disappear from your Instacart account which means you will have to pay the normal price for your groceries. You can check the expiry date by going to your account settings.
- Excluded products: Your code won’t be applied to any alcohol products. Instacart promo codes will only be applied and work for non-alcohol items.
- Several users: Each Instacart promo code is only limited to one household. If more than one person in your household is applying the same promo code, it won’t be added to the user’s account.
If you require additional help with promo codes, you can refer directly to the Instacart Help Center.
Do Instacart Promo Codes for Current Users Exist?
Instacart does occasionally offer discount codes to existing users, but unlike promo codes for new users, they’re not available to just anyone on an ongoing basis. Rather, they’re usually offered to users in select markets for a limited time frame. Sometimes, your savings may also be limited to:
- Specific types of orders (pick-up or delivery)
- Select grocery stores, like Costco, Publix, or Aldi
- Select grocery items
Because Instacart promo codes for current users are sent directly to eligible users, the best way to keep an eye out for offers is by staying subscribed to Instacart emails and push notifications. By doing so, you’ll be the first to hear when you qualify for discounted grocery delivery services.
Coupon sites are unlikely to be a good source for Instacart discount codes when you’re a current user. Even if you do find a unique code that’s working for other existing users, you most likely won’t qualify if it wasn’t sent to you directly.
Instacart Coupons for Existing Users
You might see a lot of promotions for new users, but what about promo codes for existing Instacart users?
Currently, Instacart focuses on attracting new users and there aren’t any available promo codes for existing users, but keep checking regularly.
One way to find promo codes is to log into your Instacart account and have a look at your dashboard and see when promo codes become available. You can also refer to the websites of Instacart’s partners for promo codes, like Costco, Safeway, and Lowes Food.
Instacart eventually realized they needed to expand and grow even more. They tried various strategies such as offering promo codes and began to see some traction.
They decided to turn to existing users by implementing a referral program as a way to get new users to sign up and it started bringing in a ton of new users.
The strategy was simple; offer each existing customer a promo code that has a certain value when they give it to a new user who signs up. When the new user claims the promo code, they get a certain amount off their total purchase and the existing user gets a certain value too for referring someone, provided that person places an order.
Existing users took full advantage of the program and Instacart saw massive growth. If you also want to get a promo code and earn credits, all you have to do is share your referral code.
You can do this by simply following these steps:
- Click on the Account icon
- Click on Invite Friends
- Go to Invite your contacts, OR
- Share your referral code by clicking Share with…
- Log in and navigate to the top where it says Account
- Click Your Account In the drop-down menu
- Go to Refer your friends
- Share your referral information via social media, link, or inputting the email address of the people you would like to refer.
So even though there might not be any Instacart promo codes for existing users, you can still take full advantage of the referral program by using the steps and sharing your referral code.
While Instacart promo codes may be somewhat rarer for current users, Instacart coupons are available for you to clip pretty much every day.
When shopping at any store, you can browse coupons from the “Coupons” section at the very top of each store page, or by tapping the “Savings” tab after selecting a store. When you see a coupon you want to use, simply tap the “Save (Dollar Amount)” button — which may appear as “Apply Coupon” when an item is highlighted on the website — and the deal will display “Coupon Applied.”
After you add the eligible items to your cart, your coupon savings should automatically appear upon checkout — no Instacart coupon code entry needed.
You can also find discounted items throughout each store (sale prices are marked in red), so you don’t necessarily need to clip coupons to receive savings either.
Save Money With Instacart Express
If you’re not having any luck with Instacart promo codes, there’s still a way to get free delivery on every order. When you sign up for an Instacart Express membership for $9.99 per month or $99 per year, you get unlimited free delivery on all orders that are $35 or more.
Thanks to the waived delivery fee, you’ll also be able to avoid peak hour pricing, which traditionally increases delivery costs during times of high demand. Members save about $7 on average per order with Instacart Express.
This membership service essentially allows you to get the benefits of Target’s Shipt, a membership-based grocery delivery service, for the same annual price or a cheaper month-to-month price.
Frequently Asked Questions
Saving money on your next Instacart order is far from impossible. The grocery delivery service offers plenty of ways to save on items from your favorite stores.
If you still want to learn more about these savings opportunities, check out our answers to these three common questions:
1. Is it possible to stack promo codes on Instacart?
Only one promo code can be applied at checkout, so they cannot be stacked. However, you can use promo codes, coupons, and Instacart Express benefits all at once, so big savings are possible on Instacart.
2. Are Instacart prices equivalent to in-store prices?
No, Instacart prices are sometimes slightly higher than the prices you’ll see in your local stores. This is because grocery stores set their own prices, and a small markup can help them cover the cost of offering convenient Instacart deliveries. For this same reason, you may see different sale prices in-store and on the mobile app .
If you want to see a store’s pricing policy, simply select the store once you’re logged into the platform. Right under the store’s logo, you’ll see text that says “Higher than in-store prices” or “Everyday store prices.” For grocery stores that don’t have this text displayed, you simply need to tap “View pricing policy” under the store header, tap “Info,” and scroll down to the “Pricing” section to get the information you need.
3. Can the value of referral bonuses change?
Yes. Instacart can change the value of referral bonuses, or even take them away altogether, at any time. Because of this, we recommend that you use any code you find as soon as possible so you don’t have to worry about chasing a good deal later on.
Get the Best Deals Around
Instacart promo codes are available throughout the internet and, for current users, directly from the grocery delivery service, too. Beyond these discount codes, you can maximize your total offers when you use features that already exist on the platform. By taking advantage of these savings, you can make your grocery shopping process more convenient, so you have more time for the things that matter the most in your life.
After you claim your first discount, you can also choose to try out a new service if Instacart isn’t working out. Read our complete guide to Shipt to learn how the Target-owned grocery delivery service works, in case it’s a better fit for your shopping and saving needs.
