Without clarifying what type of Uber car is needed, passengers agree to enter into an Uber ride lottery, not knowing which type of vehicle they will end up with once they get matched with a driver.
But this can lead to unwanted results. For example, those looking for an SUV to bring themselves and some friends into town may find themselves trying to squeeze into a sports car.
To avoid this type of situation, Uber offers riders a variety of rideshare options that go above and beyond the regular ride request.
Uber Car Types And Costs
Each of these selections makes it possible for riders to request a specific type of ride based on their individual needs.
Although the personalized rideshare requirements are a great way to customize your glamorous entrance on arrival, the unique specifications are a bit more expensive than a normal Uber ride.
Let’s take a look at the different rideshare options so that you can identify the right type of Uber car for your next big event.
Riders that prefer to have a bit more control over their rideshare experience should check out UberX. This rideshare option removes the majority of variability that comes with requesting a ride.
For example, UberX vehicles must be able to carry at least four passengers. In addition, the type of Uber car answering an UberX ride request must have four doors, such as a sedan or SUV.
Other Uber car requirements include a designated age limit on the vehicle. In the majority of states, an UberX vehicle can be no older than 10 years old.
Rates for UberX vary from state to state. Nevertheless, the Uber Fare Estimator suggests that the initial fee for an UberX is $0.40 and the price per mile is less than a dollar on average.
Other fees include a modest $0.14 per minute as well as a service charge of $1.58. Compared to the other rideshare options on our list, it’s easy to see why UberX is the most popular selection.
|UberX Vehicle Requirements||Vehicle Age Limits||Cost Per Ride||Additional Requirements|
|Must be able to carry 4 passengers||No more than 10 years old (in most states)||Initial fee of $0.40;
Less than $1.00 per mile;
$0.14 per minute;
Service charge of $1.58
|Must have 4 doors|
Recently added, UberPOOL provides passengers with a way to save money on their ride request.
Uber modeled the UberPOOL after the more traditional concept of carpooling. Unlike this older version of ridesharing, Uber handles all of the guesswork associated with scheduling each pickup and drop-off
When someone orders an UberPOOL, Uber compares active routes in the area. If two riders are located in the same general area or going to the same general destination, Uber combines their ride and passes the savings onto the riders. Those that use UberPOOL typically save about 40-55% off on their ride, compared to UberX prices.
The vehicle requirements for UberPOOL are the same as UberX.
The biggest difference between the two is the ride time. When Uber combines local UberPOOL passengers into one route, ride times can significantly increase for both passengers.
UberPOOL also has a passenger restriction. Riders who make an UberPOOL request may only bring one additional person with them. By implementing this rule up front, Uber is able to make sure that there is enough room for everyone during the trip. Savvy Uber users know that, while this may be the cheapest option, there is no restriction on who ends up in the car with you.
|UberPOOL Vehicle Requirements||Vehicle Age Limits||Cost Per Ride||Additional Requirements|
|Must be able to carry 4 passengers||No more than 10 years old (in most states)||Typically 40-55% cheaper than UberX||Must have 4 doors|

UberXL’s initial fee is $2.15 and the rate per mile is $1.68. Additional rates include a $0.26 per minute and $1.70 service fee.
